ZTE Blade Z10 (A512)

ZTE Blade Z10 (A512) Stock Firmware | AT&T Official OTA Update

The ZTE Blade Z10 (also known as model A512) is a budget smartphone from 2016, sold primarily by the US carrier AT&T. This page provides an official OTA (Over-The-Air) update package for the device. For owners of this phone, manually installing a software update is a key step to fix common bugs, improve system stability, and resolve errors like the dreaded “dm-verity” corruption message.

Important Note: This is an OTA update package, not a full firmware for unbricking a dead phone. It must be installed on a functioning device. Your phone must also be on 100% stock, un-rooted firmware with the original recovery for the update to install successfully.

Quick Installation Guide

There are two methods to install an OTA update package.

  1. Via Settings Menu: Download the `.zip` file and move it to the main (root) directory of your internal storage. Go to `Settings` > `System` > `System Update`, tap the menu icon in the corner, select `Local update`, and choose the file.
  2. Via Stock Recovery: Download the `.zip` file and move it to your internal storage or SD card. Power off the phone, then boot into recovery mode (hold Volume Up + Power). Select `Apply update from…` and choose the `.zip` file.

FAQs

Q1. My phone is stuck at boot with a “dm-verity verification failed” error. Will this OTA fix it?

No. The “dm-verity” error means your system partition is corrupt and the phone cannot boot. Because this is an OTA update, it requires a working phone to be installed. To fix the dm-verity error, you must flash a full factory firmware package using the QFIL tool, not this OTA file.

Q2. Can I remove the AT&T pre-installed apps (bloatware) with this update?

No. This is an official AT&T update, and it will install or update all the original carrier applications. To manage bloatware, you can go to `Settings > Apps` and “Disable” any of the pre-installed apps that you do not use.

Q3. Will this update unlock my phone from the AT&T network?

No. This is an official software update from the carrier. It will not change the phone’s network lock status. The device will remain locked to AT&T.

Device-Specific Troubleshooting

  • Battery Draining Faster Than Expected: The Blade Z10 can suffer from battery drain due to the numerous AT&T background services. After installing this update, a `wipe cache partition` from recovery mode can help clear out old files. Also, disabling unused AT&T apps can significantly reduce background power consumption.
  • “Unfortunately, AT&T Address Book has stopped” Error: This is a very common bug with this model. This OTA update can resolve it by installing a newer version of the app. If the error persists after the update, go to `Settings > Apps`, find the “AT&T Address Book” app, and clear its cache and data.
  • Slow Camera and Blurry Photos: A software update can improve camera processing. If the camera is still slow after the update, ensure you have a fast microSD card set as the default storage location for photos, as writing to slow internal memory can cause lag.
  • “Verification Failed” During Installation: This error means your system has been modified (rooted) or you are on a custom software version. This official OTA will only install on a 100% stock, un-rooted AT&T device. You must flash a full QFIL firmware first to restore the phone to its original state.
