How to Flash Using QFIL (QPST)

  1. Install Drivers: Download and install the Qualcomm USB Drivers on your PC. You may need to restart your computer after installation.
  2. Extract Firmware: Unzip the downloaded ZTE_Libero_S10…_QPST.zip file to a folder on your desktop.
  3. Install and Open QFIL: Install the QPST suite and then launch the QFIL application.
  4. Enter EDL Mode: Power off your Libero S10 completely. Press and hold both Volume Up + Volume Down buttons, and while holding them, connect the phone to your computer with a USB cable. The screen will stay black.
  5. Verify Connection: QFIL should detect the phone and display “Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008” in the port selection menu. If not, reinstall the drivers or try a different USB port.
  6. Load Firmware Files in QFIL:
    • Ensure “Flat Build” is selected as the build type.
    • Click “Browse…” next to Programmer Path and select the prog_emmc_firehose_…mbn file from the firmware folder.
    • Click “Load XML…” and select the rawprogram_unsparse.xml file, and then the patch0.xml file when prompted.
  7. Start Flashing: Click the “Download” button to begin the process. Do not interrupt the process or disconnect the cable.
  8. Completion: Once the log shows “Download Succeeded,” you can disconnect the phone. Hold the Power button until it vibrates and boots up. The first boot after flashing can take several minutes.

FAQs

Q1. Can I install this firmware on a non-Japanese phone?

No. This firmware is specifically for the ZTE Libero S10 (901ZT) sold by SoftBank in Japan. It contains carrier-specific modem files and configurations. Attempting to flash it on any other device model will likely result in a hard brick.

Q2. Will this unlock my phone to use other SIM cards?

No, this will not remove the network lock. This is the official SoftBank firmware, and flashing it will restore the phone to its original carrier-locked status. The phone will only work with SoftBank or Y!mobile SIM cards.

Q3. The phone is in Japanese after flashing. How do I change the language?

During the initial setup wizard, you should be prompted to select a language. If you miss this, you can change it after setup by going to Settings. Look for the Settings icon (a gear), find the ‘System’ menu (often with an “i” icon or globe), then ‘Language & Input’ (the first option, usually), and add your preferred language.

Q4. Is this a safe way to upgrade to Android 12?

Yes. This is the official firmware package. If your phone is unable to receive the Over-The-Air (OTA) update automatically, manually flashing this package with QFIL is a reliable method to upgrade to Android 12.

Troubleshooting (ZTE Libero S10)

  • No Network Service after Flashing: Remember this device is locked to SoftBank Japan. It will not get a signal with SIM cards from other carriers or countries. Ensure you are using an active SoftBank/Y!mobile SIM.
  • QFIL “Sahara” or “Firehose” Error: This common error usually points to a driver or connection issue. Reinstall the Qualcomm drivers, use a high-quality USB cable, connect to a USB 2.0 port on your PC, and ensure you selected the correct firehose programmer file.
  • Device Not Detected in EDL Mode: Confirm the phone is completely off before attempting the button combination. If it’s still not detected, check Windows Device Manager to see if “QDLoader 9008” appears under Ports (COM & LPT) when you connect it. If it shows up with a yellow exclamation mark, the driver is not installed correctly.
  • Japanese Bloatware Apps: The firmware will restore all of SoftBank’s pre-installed applications. While most cannot be uninstalled, you can disable them by going to Settings > Apps > [App Name] > Disable.
  • Stuck in Bootloop after Flashing: While rare, if the device doesn’t boot past the ZTE or Y!mobile logo after 15 minutes, you may need to perform a factory reset. Boot into recovery mode (combination varies, often Vol Up + Power) and select “Wipe data/factory reset”.
